§16§The three-volume set LNCS 5101-5103 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Computational Science, ICCS 2008, held in Krakow, Poland in June 2008. The 167 revised papers of the main conference track presented together with the abstracts of 7 keynote talks and the 100 revised papers from 14 workshops were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the three volumes. The main conference track was divided into approximately 20 parallel sessions addressing topics such as e-science applications and systems, scheduling and load balancing, software services and tools, new hardware and its applications, computer networks, simulation of complex systems, image processing and visualization, optimization techniques, numerical linear algebra, and numerical algorithms. The second volume contains workshop papers related to various computational research areas, e.g.: computer graphics and geometric modeling, simulation of multiphysics multiscale systems, §16§computational chemistry and its applications, computational finance and business intelligence, physical, biological and social networks, geocomputation, and teaching computational science. The third volume is mostly related to computer science topics such as bioinformatics' challenges to computer science, tools for program development and analysis in computational science, software engineering for large-scale computing, collaborative and cooperative environments, applications of workflows in computational science, as well as intelligent agents and evolvable systems. §04§7th International Workshop on Computer Graphics and Geometric Modeling.- 5th Workshop on Simulation of Multiphysics Multiscale Systems.- 3rd Workshop on Computational Chemistry and Its Applications.- Workshop on Computational Finance and Business Intelligence.- Workshop on Physical, Biological and Social Networks.- Workshop on GeoComputation.- 2nd Workshop on Teaching Computational Science. §04§ase Study of the Trans and Gauche Rotamers of 1,2-Diisocyanoethane, 1,2-Diisocyanodisilane and Isocyano(isocyanomethyl)silane.- A Density Functional Theory Study of Oxygen Adsorption at Silver Surfaces: Implications for Nanotoxicity.- Mechanism of Influenza A M2 Ion-Channel Inhibition: A Docking and QSAR Study.- A Java Tool for the Management of Chemical Databases and Similarity Analysis Based on Molecular Graphs Isomorphism.- Noncanonical Base Pairing in RNA: Topological and NBO Analysis of Hoogsteen Edge - Sugar Edge Interactions.- Design of Optimal Laser Fields to Control Vibrational Excitations in Carboxy-myoglobin.- Computations of Ground State and Excitation Energies of Poly(3-methoxy-thiophene) and Poly(thienylene vinylene) from First Principles.- Workshop on Computational Finance and Business Intelligence.- Workshop on Computational Finance and Business Intelligence.- Parallelization of Pricing Path-Dependent Financial Instruments on Bounded Trinomial Lattices.- Heterogene §04§ity and Endogenous Nonlinearity in an Artificial Stock Model.- Bound for the L 2 Norm of Random Matrix and Succinct Matrix Approximation.- Select Representative Samples for Regularized Multiple-Criteria Linear Programming Classification.- A Kernel-Based Technique for Direction-of-Change Financial Time Series Forecasting.- An Optimization-Based Classification Approach with the Non-additive Measure.- A Selection Method of ETF's Credit Risk Evaluation Indicators.- Estimation of Market Share by Using Discretization Technology: An Application in China Mobile.- A Rough Set-Based Multiple Criteria Linear Programming Approach for Classification.- Predictive Modeling of Large-Scale Sequential Curves Based on Clustering.- Estimating Real Estate Value-at-Risk Using Wavelet Denoising and Time Series Model.- The Impact of Taxes on Intra-week Stock Return Seasonality.- A Survey of Formal Verification for Business Process Modeling.- Workshop on Physical, Biological and Social Networks.- Network
