This book is written by a variety of researchers specializing in nitrogen cycles in microbial communities. It offers a strong overview of new approaches in theory, methods, and applications, such as metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and metaproteomics. It also looks at new applications in water treatment, agriculture, sampling, and climate change. The book identifies the major new issues in understanding nitrogen cycling as greenhouse gas formation and the use of nitrate fertilizers in agriculture with resulting high nitrate levels in fresh water for human use and in the environment.
