Papke and Oren present research on the bacteria, archaea, and viruses of extremely saline environments. Eight relatively broad contributions are included. The first two cover ecology, evolution, and genomics of Haloquadratum walsbyi and internal biodiversity of Salinibacter ruber. Horizontal gene transfer, comparative genomics, and genomic influences on adaptation to saline environments for a few model species are discussed. Finally the regulation of the cell wall, the cell cycle, ploidy, proteolysis, and protein conjugation are reviewed. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
