Annie Torres Checks in : A Novel

In this buoyant novel blending magical realism with heartfelt family drama, a woman at life’s crossroads reinvents herself in the haunted hallways of her family’s hotel. Annie Torres needs to do something great…fast. According to her late mother, women should find their greatness before turning forty, but after thirty-nine years of doing everything “right,” all Annie has to show for herself is a hairless cat and a camper van—both of which might be stolen. But Annie has a plan to achieve greatness before her rapidly approaching birthday. What she doesn’t plan on is an extended stay at her family’s hotel near the Arizona-Mexico border. An icon for over a century, the Queen of San Luis has welcomed and entertained guests by generations of Torres women. Annie has dozens of memories of the Queen, but it’s what she can’t remember that holds the key to saving the neglected hotel from being condemned by the city at the hands of an old flame. To save it, Annie must connect with her magical Mexican heritage, using the one power that’s cursed her family for years: love.
