This timely volume on labor struggles in America presents sixteen essays on the recent labor uprising in response to draconian anti-union laws enacted by the Wisconsin state government. Documenting the resurgence of a diverse and unified worker's coalition in the state and widespread support for its actions around the country, the essays discuss three key areas of the movement. Beginning with accounts of the events on the ground in Wisconsin, articles address lessons from the actions for organizers and activists, and future possibilities for broader regional and national progress on labor issues. Topics discussed include the future of the movement begun in Wisconsin, new strategies for surviving Open Shop legislation, and recent labor actions among industrial workers in New York and longshoremen in Washington State. Contributors are labor activist and organizers from Wisconsin and other states. Annotation 2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
