The book opens with an accessible history of Indiana geology. Entries are organized by region, from the Indiana Dunes of the north to the rivers and waterfalls of the south, and each regional section begins with a brief introduction to the region. Entries are 2-4 pages and describe major geological features and significance of the site. Most entries are geological formations, but some are historical sites or sites notable for human activities related to natural resources.
