Before exploring the roadside geology along more than thirty of Nevada's roads, DeCourten and Biggar describe the broader physiographic and geologic setting of the state, the nature of its rock record, the tectonic history of the western edge of North America, and how the desert landscape has been affected by climate change in the recent geologic past. The trips are in sections on the Las Vegas area, northern and central Nevada, and state highways.
