Understanding Wisdom Literature : Conflict and Dissonance in the Hebrew Text

Penchansky (theology, U. of St. Thomas, Minnesota) introduces students and general readers to the five books of the Old Testament that grapple with understanding God, the world, and the role of people in the scheme of things (if there is one). His topics include who the sages are, what unity in Proverbs, the meaning of the Book of Job, the absence of covenental theology in the wisdom literature, Sophia and Simon as the two poles of Ben Sira's affection, and the conservatism of pseudo-Solomon.
