Reviews methods for constructing a specific class of asymptotic solutions, here called self-stabilizing, among which are solitons, kinks, travelling waves, and others. Either the solutions from the class or their derivatives are localized in the neighborhood of a certain curve or surface. Applications are demonstrated on mass transfer processes and on the flow around a plate. The appendix discusses a method for justifying some asymptotic solutions. For specialists both in differential equations and in the mathematical modeling of physical and chemical processes. Translated and updated from the 1987 Russian edition published by Nauka in Moscow.
