Presents 34 seminal essays grouped in sections on physical nature and evolution, psychological nature, social nature, and spiritual and moral nature. The series was developed to supply a core of readings for students at Lynchburg College. The first edition comprised selections mostly from white European males; so the editors of the second edition had their work cut out for them in incorporating the voices of women, minorities, and third-world authors. A partial list of authors: Darwin, Goodall, Freud, Jung, de Beauvoir, Friedan, Lao-tzu, Aquinas, Pope, Emerson. No index, and no bibliography. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
