Polarization Optics in Optical Fiber Communication Systems provides a complete overview of polarization optics as it applies to fiber optic communication systems. The book begins with the basics of polarization optics that is followed by the physical mechanisms and mathematical descriptions of the polarization phenomena encountered in the transmission of optical signals in fiber optic channels, such as rotation of state of polarization, polarization mode dispersion, and polarization-dependent loss. The book then discusses methods for measurements of polarization mode dispersion and polarization dependent loss, modeling methods of polarization fiber channel, and polarization equalization methods in fiber optic communication systems. This book provides a foundation in polarization optics and the treatment of polarization effects for researchers and engineers who study or work in the field of fiber optic communications.
