Lesbian and Gay Couples is an important addition to the literature on working with same-sex couples. Students and practitioners alike will find the depth of research in this text helpful in learning about alternative relationships, lifestyles, and how to support healthy same-sex relationships. Issues covered include relationship counseling, dating, parenting, recognizing intimate partner violence in same-sex couples, non-monogamy, marriage, and the importance of recognizing heterosexism (the system of bias and discrimination toward same-sex couples) in society and in oneself. The author believes that by acknowledging the existence of heterosexism, readers take the first step in diminishing its influence on the lives of their clients. Lesbian and Gay Couples is an important work for any practitioner's bookshelf.
